Project Description
The improvements under this contract consisted of reconstructing SR-45 from SR-72 northerly 2.68 miles to Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota. The scope included the construction of three cast-in-place flat slab concrete bridges built with the “Top-Down” construction method working off of a temporary work trestle. Structure work also incorporated concrete bulkhead work and bridge demolition. Pile driving was partially completed off of a trestle. Phased construction was used to minimize traffic impacts. Difficult soils required the redesign of concrete sheet pile walls without any impacts to the schedule. Construction of medians approved safety and traffic flow by removing “suicide lanes”. The roadway work included clearing and grubbing, excavation, embankment and stabilization, base course, asphalt, drainage structures, miscellaneous concrete, riprap, fencing, guardrail, sodding, lighting, signing, signalization, and pavement markings. Over 125 separate business entrances were reconstructed all while maintaining access.
