Project Description
This Design-Build project consisted of constructing a new precast segmental bridge structure spanning over Sarasota Bay. In total, the structure is 3,100 feet long and 106 feet in width. This unique bridge is composed of a single box structure that is erected in halves making it one of the widest single box segmental bridges in North America. Lighting was designed to the Department’s highest standards for aesthetic purposes. The contract also included demolition of the existing structure and reconstructing the adjacent green spaces in coordination with the City. The FDOT considers the project as one of its World Class structures. The Ringling Causeway Bridge is a high level long span multi land bridge over a navigational channel in a recreation community. The City of Sarasota has a highly publicly active community. PCL led the Community awareness program for FDOT from the onset. Our involvement ranged from presentations to the city council to sell the aesthetic features of the bridge, to PCL’s public information Web site that kept all informed of schedule issues and traffic changes.
