Project Description

The Avondale WRF project was divided into three different phases (referred to as “GMP1”, “GMP2”, and “GMP3”).  GMP1 consisted of an upgrade to the existing plant aeration equipment, as well as the construction of a new vactor truck facility.  GMP2 consisted of procurement of long lead time equipment for installation under GMP3.  GMP3 consisted of expansion to the existing plant, which includes the construction of two new digesters, a new primary clarifier, a new influent pump station, a new headworks structure, a new EQ basin, a new primary sludge pump station, a new odor control facility, a new chemical facility, a new chlorine contact basin, a new effluent pump station, a new thickener building, and a new digester heat exchanger building.  Upon construction of the new expansion, GMP3 also included demolition of some of the plants existing structures that will become obsolete.

PCL self-performed much of the work on the Avondale WRF project.  For GMP-1 PCL dismantled the existing piping in the aeration basins and replaced it with 800LF of new process piping and a new blower.  The procurement items included in GMP-2 were the various pumps, sludge heat exchangers, odor control system, digesters covers, and rotary drum thickener to name a few.  For GMP-3 PCL self-performed most of the concrete work totaling 7000 CY.  The concrete work comprised the construction of several structures including the, primary clarifier, equalization basin, influent pump station, chlorine contact basin, and two digesters.  PCL also self-performed the installation of 2700LF of various sized underground piping, exposed piping of various types and sizes, and the final installation of all major pieces of equipment.
