The new Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion Project, located in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, totals approximately 1.1 million square feet (or four city blocks). The building's rooftop features a six acre “living roof,” one of the largest of its kind in the world. Work began on the site October 12, 2004 commencing with the site preparation and civil work packages. The newly expanded Convention Centre served a pivotal role at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and 2010 Paralympics as home to the International Broadcast Centre (IBC), hosting 10,000 media representatives from around the world. Located right on the waterfront with stunning mountain views, this incredible facility truly provided the global media with an amazing backdrop for the whole world to see.
