Project Features/Highlights
Project Description
Earning the distinction of the first LEED Gold project in Alberta, the Nose Creek Recreation and Library Facility (Cardel Place) is a 194,000 sq ft building funded by the City of Calgary with contributions from the Library and Community Association. The facility incorporates a diverse assortment of community and athletic venues including two NHL style hockey rinks, a large gymnasium, swimming pool, fitness center, library, and common areas. The building design incorporates large open spaces with a large clerestory near the main entrance and other enhanced glazing sections. The building foundation is comprised of close to 500 dynamically driven piles which support concrete pile caps, grade beams, and walls. The building exterior is architecturally unique, with a multitude of different elevations, angles, and details used to enhance the visual appeal. Finished walls range from masonry veneer to metal cladding, composite panels, and sections of curtain wall. PCL chaired biweekly LEED construction meetings exceeding owner's expectations in several areas. PCL designed the waste management program with landfill diversion of over 75%. This exceeded the specified requirements and gained an additional LEED credit.
