Project Description

The Sheraton Waikiki Project is located in the heart of the Waikiki corridor of the Honolulu area and consists of the methodical renovation of the Resort Pool area, demolition of the existing exterior grand stair, construction of two replacement stairs (one interior; one exterior), renovation of the entire first level retail areas, complete renovation of the entry Porte Cochere and relocation of the check-in/registry desk and renovation/replacement of the infinity edge pool.  The client is Kyo-Ya Hotels and Resorts, LP through the construction management services of Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB).

The site is historically significant and requires Owner provided, full-time archaeological monitoring during excavation.  The scope of work involves:  100,000 sf of site stone paving, pools, terraces and landscaping, demolition of existing exterior grand staircase, and construction of a new main staircase within the building perimeter, facilitation/coordination of the replacement of the escalators by the Owner's contractor (NPCL to do the structural modifications and coordinate the owner contracted escalator sub trade), relocation of front desk and creation of new Porte Cochere and front desk lobby area, demolition of 90,000sf of retail space and construction of new retail shell space and storefront, construction of "resort pool" on diamond-head lawn with natural lava rock finish water slide and water jet sunning platforms (when complete, this will be the largest pool in any Waikiki hotel), construction of "infinity pool" to be built 5' from the edge of the ocean and construction of three additional water-feature pools at various locations around the project including a living system "lily pond" schedule to maintain plants and fish via the use of an ozone bed.
